Vehicles

On July 1, 2011, the Airport adopted new procedures for flightline security. This will include identifying certain areas where privately owned vehicles (POVs) are and are not allowed. This is to comply with the Airport's Joint Use Agreement with Marine Corps Air Station Yuma and MCAS regulations which prohibit POVs on the flightline.

To comply with all of our associated regulations the airport has defined the flightline as all areas inside the perimeter fence except for those paved areas immediately around the T-Shades, and our existing Tee and Box Hangars. This includes the Hero Hangars and the Northwest Hangars.

The paved area around these rented spaces is designated as Hangar Driveways.

Hangar Driveways are POV designated access lanes to YCAA based aircraft T-Shades and T-Hangars rented by local tenants. The flightline side of Hangar Driveways is designated by a double yellow line.

Within the Hangar Driveways airport hangar tenants may freely access their leased property in their POVs.

POV's may not cross the double yellow line into the Aircraft Movement Area under any circumstances. Failure to comply with this restriction will result in loss of vehicle access to the Hangar Driveways.

Airport tenants must access the Hangar Driveways through approved gates. Hero Hangar tenants may access the hangar driveways through a new parking lot being constructed to the north of the Hero Hangars. This parking area can also be accessed from Fortuna Avenue.

The new driveway and new vehicle parking area is shown in blue below. Notice that the new parking area will be surrounded by the existing fence line. This will provide users of the Hero Hangars with a secured parking area.

Vehicles may park in this area at no charge for up to 4 weeks. After 4 weeks a fee will be assessed at the same rate as long term parking for the Airport Terminal.

The vehicle gate into the secure parking area is a normal security gate exactly like the ones you are used to using today. An Airport ID Badge is required to enter and exit the security gates. Just swipe the card reader and enter your PIN number to open the gate. Once on the other side, stop at the hold line and wait for the gate to close before driving ahead.

A new vehicle gate has been installed for the T-Shades as shown below. The new gate is across the street from the Million Air parking lot.

Once through the vehicle security gate you can drive to your rented T-Hangar through the driveway shown below. This is a standard parking lot bar arm, just like the ones in the Terminal Parking Lot. Use your card reader for this gate, just like the vehicle gate. When the arm bar swings open you can drive through, no need to wait, and drive to your T-Hangar. As shown below, if you desire, you can leave your vehicle inside the hangar while you are away.

The Airport Minimum Standards has been updated soon to reflect these changes.
